Problems with startx on 5.2-RC2

I had another ACPI related problem on my asus (nvidia) a7n8x,
and posted to the 'current' mailing list.  One of the replies
suggested how to disable acpi cleanly:

That worked - it changed the boot menu choice from
"boot with acpi disabled" to "boot with acpi enabled".
