It doesn't?

    % uname -a
    FreeBSD happy-idiot-talk.infracaninophile.co.uk 4.9-STABLE FreeBSD 4.9-STABLE #56: Thu Feb 19 23:35:17 GMT 2004 root at happy-idiot-talk.infracaninophile.co.uk:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/HAPPY-IDIOT-TALK i386
    % grep -i acpi /var/run/dmesg.boot
    acpi0: <ASUS A7V266 > on motherboard
acpi0: power button is handled as a fixed feature programming model.
    Timecounter "ACPI-fast" frequency 3579545 Hz
    acpi_timer0: <24-bit timer at 3.579545MHz> port 0xe408-0xe40b on acpi0
    acpi_cpu0: <CPU> on acpi0
    acpi_button0: <Power Button> on acpi0
    acpi_cpu: throttling enabled, 16 steps (100% to 6.2%), currently 100.0%

Admittedly this isn't the same level of support as occurs in 5.x, but
it is there. See the documentation in /usr/src/sys/i386/conf/LINT for
'device acpica' for more details.

	Cheers,

	Matthew
