gnome-cd: connecting to cddb server as user

Freebsd 4.11-pre, gnome-lite 2.8.1.

using gnome-cd to listen to cd's in my user acct, but it wont connect to the 
cddb server to pull down cd info.  It does when I do it as root, however.

The only error I see is this:

** (gnome-cd:671): WARNING **: could not contact cddb server

how to fix????
