why can't I access ftp.freebsd.org/pub/freebsd/distfiles?

Paste the full output of 
/usr/bin/ftp ftp://ftp.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/distfiles/

Do you maybe have ipv6 enabled in your kernel, but don't have an IPV6
route to the internet?  One of the addresses that ftp.freebsd.org
resolves to is 2001:4f8:0:2::e .
