disk I/O slower then linux?

I use 40GB hard
with 
ad0s1 Windows XP 14GB
ad0s2 FAT32            10GB
rest of partistions are set  automatically by installer.(1GB swap)
and softupdates is enabled

anyways, it looks like a problem of 5.3 release.
