BattStat startup error in Gnome-2.6.0 (and 2.4.0)

Hey all, when I start-up Gnome-2.6.0, I get this error that says
something like "The "APM Management subsystem seems to be disabled. Use
apm -e 1 to enable"... but then the battery icon pops up, and it
accurately tells me my battery life/charge.

What gives?
