As someone who had to live with a severely brain-damaged proxy at work
for more than a year, I feel your pain.  (However, I think your
complaints should be directed at to whoever is responsible for such a
piece of trash, not FreeBSD...)

If you can tell me exactly which files you can trouble downloading (by
their URLs,) I can manually mirror them somewhere for you, under
different names.
