fetching mail with fetchmail on the LAN

Fetching mail with fetchmail from the outside world works fine.
But when I try to fetch mail from another box on my local network I get an error:

nina at nina:/home/nina> fetchmail -u web syvert.la3sg.net
Enter password for web at syvert.la3sg.net: 
fetchmail: Query status=2 (SOCKET)
