Mozilla has always worked fine for me.  You're most likely hitting a
font problem.  Run mozilla -g, and then type "run" at the (gdb) prompt. 
See if it's crashing, and where.  Also, make sure your freetype2,
fontconfig, and Xft ports are up-to-date.  If you don't want
anti-aliased fonts, then you can rebuild mozilla with -DWITHOUT_XFT to
avoid some of the font hassles.
