XFree86 changes resolution per keypress

I've just upgraded from XFree86 4.2.0 to 4.3.0 using portupgrade. It
was working fine as 4.2.0, but now it cycles though the different
resolutions every time I press a key - any key. How on earth did this
happen? It is the same with the old configuration file or with a new
one made by XFree86 -configure.

The machine is 4.6.2-p13, and it is a k6-2 with an AT keyboard, not a
PS/2 one. Video is an on-motherboard SIS 6326 that always worked
before.

>From googling, someone with the same problem on netbsd.tech.x11 thought
the answer was to upgrade libc. Does that apply to me, and how do I do
it?

Below is the startup output, until I ctrl-alt-backspace it. Below is
the contents of /var/log/XFree86.0.log. Attached is the XF86Config
file.

Does anyone have any ideas, please? This is very serious for me,
because it is my only workstation, and I can't upgrade it until after
I've got another job and paid some debts!
