error in gnughostscript make

tryint to install gnu-ghostscript I get the following:

./obj/gdevespg.o undefined reference to 'lips_mode3format_encode'...

error code 2
stop...

I know nothing about how to resolve this -- I greped the source and
found a header file gdevlips.h with the mode3format variable in it.
now what?

I cvsuped ports today... so I'm assuming that the port is 'good'.  

any advice?
