load averages

The "load" is the number of processes that want to use the CPU at any
given moment.  The numbers shown by uptime/top are the average of the
load over the last 1/5/15 minutes.  No percentages invloved.

If you have several programs running at the same time it is perfectly
normal to have a load average greater than 1.0.
