Secure HTTP access to a list archive

The requirement is for a web server providing secure, authenticated HTTP 
access to a secured, closed list archive.

We are looking at FreeBSD, Apache, Ecartis + mhonarc + postfix, plus some 
web server language to implement the access.

Any recommendations, how-to's, approaches, or available solutions?
