The 940C isn't a winprinter - you can print flat ascii files by
printing them raw. That's one of the problems with apsfilter - it
treats every printer as a winprinter.

I use magicfilter instead of apsfilter. I'd be glad to send you my
printcap entry and the dj940c-filter magicfilter script I use. Not
only will this let you print flat ascii without having to convert it
to postscript then to graphics, you'll be able to print PCL and PJL
files. And it's a a lighter printer filter.

If you really want to use apsfilter, you might try enscript instead of
a2ps. You should replace the a2ps command in apsfilterrc with
"enscript -p-".
