booting HP ProLiant Gen8 MicroServer from 2x3TB Toshiba disks?

It won't boot from disks larger than 2 TB. It's a BIOS limitation and, unfortunately, these machines don't have UEFI boot.

I have mine with 3 TB disks using ZFS (the internal "intelligent" array is a big no no in my opinion) and I load the kernel from a pendrive. More on this later, it's been quite a puzzle to find a proper way to boot this thing.
