luajit doesn't compile on powerpc (among others) but is required to install gnome-desktop...

The same fix for powerpc64 could be applied for powerpc.  However, 
luajit has been ported to powerpc (32-bit), the developers have no plans 
to port to 64-bit.  Getting it ported for FreeBSD should be relatively 
straight forward, if it needs any work at all.
