You are perhaps referring to the problem I'm having with my PowerMac G4? Cool.
The specifications of my machine are here[1], the FreeBSD worklog here[2].
The machine is currently running FreeBSD 8.2-prerelease:
root at kg-g4# uname -a
FreeBSD kg-g4.kg4.no 8.2-PRERELEASE FreeBSD 8.2-PRERELEASE #0: Fri Jan 21 21:42:26 CET 2011 root at kg-g4.kg4.no:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC powerpc
And, if I'm correct, it has a PCI graphics card (as opposed to a AGP one):
root at kg-g4# pciconf -lv | grep -A4 vga
vgapci0 at pci0:0:16:0: class=0x030000 card=0xa5b80208 chip=0x011010de rev=0xa1 hdr=0x00
vendor = 'NVIDIA Corporation'
device = 'NVIDIA GeForce2 MX/MX 400 (NV11)'
class = display
subclass = VGA
The problem is, that Xorg hangs every time I try to run it. So, if I try:
Xorg -configure -retro
the machine hangs hard. And (after reboot) I can see that it hasn't written anything to the /root/xorg.conf.new file:
root at kg-g4# ls -l /root/xorg*
-rw-r--r-- 1 root wheel 0 Jan 21 23:43 /root/xorg.conf.new
I did try loading the agp.ko module; just in case, but it didn't make a difference.
If anybody has any hints, I'm game.
