On closer examination, it appears that my perl5-5.22 upgrade succeeded;
the problem was with misc/gimp-help-en, which has this little
"interesting" bit:
=> SHA256 Checksum OK for gimp-help-2.8.1.tar.bz2.
===> Patching for en-gimp-help-html-2.8.1_2
/usr/bin/sed -i.bak '/gimpdatadir=.*\/2.0/s,/2\.0,,' /common/ports/misc/gimp-help-en/work/gimp-help-2.8.1/configure
===> en-gimp-help-html-2.8.1_2 depends on file: /usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/libxml2mod.so - found
===> en-gimp-help-html-2.8.1_2 depends on file: /usr/local/share/xsl/docbook/xhtml/chunk.xsl - found
===> en-gimp-help-html-2.8.1_2 depends on executable: msgfmt - found
===> en-gimp-help-html-2.8.1_2 depends on executable: gmake - found
===> en-gimp-help-html-2.8.1_2 depends on executable: pkgconf - found
===> en-gimp-help-html-2.8.1_2 depends on file: /usr/local/bin/python2.7 - found
===> en-gimp-help-html-2.8.1_2 depends on executable: python2 - found

===> en-gimp-help-html-2.8.1_2 depends on package: perl5>=5.22<5.23 - not found
===> Installing for perl5-5.22.0_4
And *that* seems to be where things go haywire (as there is no
"perl5-5.23", and perl5-5.22_04 is a;lready installed):
===> Checking if perl5 already installed
===> Registering installation for perl5-5.22.0_4 as automatic
Installing perl5-5.22.0_4...
pkg-static: perl5-5.22.0_4 conflicts with perl5.22-5.22.0_4 (installs files into the same place). Problematic file: /usr/local/share/licenses/perl5-5.22.0_4/catalog.mk
