Very odd message from pkg-1.4.0

Today I did "pkg upgrade" and received the following:
libglesv2 has no direct installation candidates, change it to libglesv2?
[Y/n]:
Maybe I'm blind, but this looks like x != x. I had libglesv2 locked, so pkg
should have not even looked at it, as far as I can tell, but maybe the
solver had an issue with that.
I said "y", but when asked to proceed with updates, I said "N", and ran it
again with the same results, but I told pkg to proceed this time and got
the following failure;

I then unlocked libglesv2 and tried again. This time it ran correctly with
no odd queries and no errors.
Any idea what happened?
