Netatalk 2.2.2 disconnection

I've just upgraded net/netatalk from 2.2.1 -> 2.2.2 and I am no longer able to browse volumes in the Finder in Mac OS X 10.7.3.
Authentication seems to work fine and the volume mounts but as soon as I try to browse certain directories I get disconnected with the message "The file server [my server] has closed down".
It seems to be related to these entries in the logs - afp_read…. : ad_readfile: Resource temporarily unavailable

I've checked the Netatalk mailing lists and can't find any similar issues so I'm wondering if it's FreeBSD port specific.
Any ideas why this is occurring?
