graphviz-2.28.0 build error

There is a pr (ports/157217) with a patch.

I downloaded the patch and placed it in
/usr/ports/graphics/graphviz/files/patch-1.diff

Then I did make clean and then make patch and then

make install clean

but it stops with the same error.

I'm not an expert in patching so if I'm doing it wrongly Please advise 
me on how to make it right.
