starting vlc in X prevents keyboard input

I had this problem myself and didn't have a chance to follow up on it.
Tonight while looking for a PR to update to vlc version 1.0.1 I
noticed that there is already a PR filed on this topic, but I thought
I'd mention it to a wider audience just in case someone has a bright
idea.

FWIW I'm using openbox and I compiled vlc with the qt4 interface.
