Thanks alot guys.. The options that worked for me ( to install text only
vlc) are:
./configure --disable-x11 --disable-xvideo --disable-glx --disable-sdl
--disable-sd --disable-wxwidgets --disable-skins2 --disable-freetype
--disable-mad --disable-ffmpeg
