I was following the instructions from article mentioned by Bill:

   For example, they [users and developers] might:

      ...
      * investigate and perhaps provide a fix to a PR, or
      ...

   In these cases your main obligation is to respond in a timely manner.
   The timeout for non-responsive maintainers is 14 days.

So, this was an investigation. I asked on ports@ before submitting a PR,
as it is expected practise if one is in doubt what is right and what is
not. Expected just short maintainer's comments.
