Weird problem with ports

Have you changed anything - particularly WRKDIRPREFIX in /etc/make.conf?
Does /usr/ports/graphics/inkscape/work exist?  If so, what are its
contents (including hidden files)?
What happens if you try just "make" instead of "make install"?
