amd64 issues with the graphics/gd port?

Greetings,
    I have a script (actually, mail/exim's eximstats) that works fine on
i386,
but fails on amd64, due to what looks like infinite recursion. 

    I was wondering if anyone else has seen gd issues on amd64?

the backtrace repeats this what appears to be infinitely:

any help would be appreciated.

I can offer a shell account and access to the appropriate logs, if that
would help.
