FYI, many mail clients interpret '--' as the 'beginning of .signature
block' separator and render the subsequent text differently, e.g. in a
very tiny font.
As you note, the patch file in question was removed from the port. If
it persists in your ports tree despite updating then you have a
corrupted copy; remove it and check it out again.
