mod_perl2 refuses to install

I'm working furiously to get a server back online (major crash), and I 
can't get mod_perl2 to install.  It complains that I need to install perl 
5.8 first, but I have perl 5.8.2 installed and I've issued the use.perl 
port command.

perl -V shows that perl 5.6.2 is installed.  What did I miss?  (Need an 
answer ASAP.)
