Broken configure script

As per the instructions outputted by "make", I am submitting the
following. I was attempting to make /usr/ports/net-mgmt/nrpe. The
'make' ran fine, the 'make install' failed. It appears to have failed
here:

===>  Configuring for automake-1.9.5
checking build system type... i386-portbld-freebsd5.3
checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c -o root -g

configure: error: The installed version of autoconf does not work.
    Please check config.log for error messages before this one.
===>  Script "configure" failed unexpectedly.
Please report the problem to ports at FreeBSD.org [maintainer] and attach
the
"/usr/ports/devel/automake19/work/automake-1.9.5/config.log" including
the
output of the failure of your make command. Also, it might be a good
idea to
provide an overview of all packages installed on your system (e.g. an
`ls
/var/db/pkg`).

And, if it matters, /usr/ports was mounted from another machine.
