Seems gnustep-base needs "libgcc_s.so.1" which isn't anywhere in /usr/lib
but is installed by the the obj-gcc port as 
${PREFIX}/lib/gcc-lib/i386-portbld-freebsd5.4/3.3.6/libgcc_s.so.1
