Hmm, indeed, many apologies for that, because it is quite annoying to
go back and forth between rdiff-backup versions as there seems to be
no apparent backwards compatibility between server/client.
An no I will not do a separate branch, see follow-up, I do agree with

Hey, no problem, but instead of complaining you could've prepared the
PR and committed it. :)

I will do so now to bring it back to stable.
