ATI and Xorg

I have a Del Inspiron 7500 which has an ATI Rage Mobility P/M AGP 2x 
video card.  XFree86-4.3 works excellently with it, but with XFree86-4.4 
or Xorg I just get a blank screen.  I did a web search and it seems that 
Linux users can use a VESA driver which might fix similar kinds of problems.

Well I am guessing that this might be an X issue rather than a FreeBSD 
issue, but let me ask anyway (just for the record) - anyone here fixed 
this kind of problem?
