D'Oh!  You're quite right.  It's even in 4.10-STABLE.  Open mouth,
insert foot.

On the question of being able to divide the base system into separate
chunks of various programs which you can upgrade independently of the
rest: that sounds perilously close the 'packagisation of the base
system' argument that (like one of the Elder Gods) an incautious word
can awaken from its slumber of aeons to push its tentacles into the
various FreeBSD lists, spreading madness, despair and freshly painted
bikesheds as it does.  Almost everybody thinks it's a pretty sensible
idea; no one has come up with sample code or a feasible road map for
doing the job that doesn't entail massive disruption to the usual
course of FreeBSD development
