net/linphone startup problem

Anyone using net/linphone successfully ?

It prints 

    gagh ~> linphone
    | INFO1 | <osipua.c: 65> Starting osip stack and osipua layer.

    MediaStreamer-Message: Found /dev/dsp.

and hangs in 

   825 linphone CALL  select(0x13,0xbfafef40,0,0,0xbfafef28)

   825 linphone CALL  select(0x13,0xbfafef40,0,0,0xbfafef28)
   825 linphone RET   select 0

without starting something GUI-ish.

This is on an 'old' -current with otherwise good audio/video etc.
(5.1-CURRENT #1: Thu Oct 23) and kde3.2.0
All installed ports are up-to-date.

Any hints anyone ?
