konqueror: Error loading 'kio_http'

Hi, I'm running kde-3.3.2.  When I try to access a web site with
konquerer, I get the error:

konqueror: ERROR: : couldn't create slave : Unable to create io-slave:
klauncher said: Error loading 'kio_http'.

This is with a fresh reboot and new home directory.  I have
/usr/local/lib/compat/pkg in the ldconfig path.

Could someone point me to where I might look for the problem?  I'd rather
not have to rebuild all the zillions of ports kdelibs is dependent on.
