your Aug.10 build is ok here & s'more discussion (Re: i got a possible working scenario (Re: -Current build problems with audio/arts: "lt-mcopidl in free(): error: chunk is already free" and core dumped))

Hi,

I ran one of the build cmds with an extracted copy of
mcopidl from your Aug.10 pkg. It is okay.

I kinda think the build environment the other day was
somehow pointing to libs that had --enable-final in
effect, even tho mcopidl came from your pkg. I've
saved a hacked copy of the arts work subdir to test it
today and Aug.10 is okay.

I searched the KDE bugs site using their simplest
search form and found tons of hits on "enable final".
It's happening everywhere it seems, but it affects a
component seemingly randomly at different times
probably based on what's in their CVS at a certain
point and your specific environment.

As for bug reports on "enable final", they're closing the reports with the same notion: don't use that flag. ;) But they do mention wanting ppl to send reports via
their developer's list.

Wouldn't ya know it -- our infamous political firewall here won't let us access any of the KDE lists:

"Forbidden, this page (http://lists.kde.org/?l=kde-nonlinux) is categorized as: Chat."

TPTB think any 'chat' site is a complete waste of time,
nothing to do with your job, etc.
<sigh>

I'm kinda tempted to whip up a patch for the main
FreeBSD ports skeleton x11/kde3 Makefile.kde to do:
.undef WANT_KDE_FINAL
and/or a sed to remove anything anywhere looking like '--enable-final',
to keep others from having this problem, and since this
makefile would be .include'd in other related ports
this way.
Maybe wrap the .undef/sed inside a test for
.if $OSVERSION > 50xxxx
when gcc342 showed up on 5-Current (I feel rather
certain the 'final' option worked with the system
gcc333 before then).
Think this would fly with y'all maybe?

Other than that, I won't be able to access the KDE
lists to help further. :(
To me this is important enough to get the word out
somehow. I just don't know how.

Thanks for taking time for this.
Frustratin' bein' boxed-in at work like this.
