FreeBSD Port: proftpd-1.2.9

I'm new to freebsd, but I think I've found a problem with the proftpd 
port. Proftpd requires the creation of the directory /var/run/proftpd/ 
(for the scoreboard). If the ports installation does not create this 
directory, proftpd fails silently when started. What do you think?
