With 4.9-RELEASE coming next month, it's that time again to start
thinking about freezing the ports tree. Our thought is to do a slush
more than a freeze for this release. That means the ports tree will be
opened for BUG FIXES ONLY (no upgrades unless previously approved by
portmgr@) when the freeze goes into effect. Here is our tentative
schedule. This has been added to the main 4.9-RELEASE schedule at
http://www.freebsd.org/releases/4.9R/schedule.html, and will show up
when the website builds again.
19 August 2003 - Announce the schedule [DONE]
10 September 2003 - *Ports tree frozen*
19 September 2003 - Ports tree tagged
19 September 2003 - Final build begins
TBD - Ports tree unfrozen (this will happen when a successful build as
been completed)
I will be sending another reminder out when we get closer to the freeze
date.
