Closing, per upstream comment that openssl is not supported (reaD: only gnutls
is supported).

Latest patch in 223721 removes BROKEN_SSL which is a red herring, as USES=ssl
is a noop, and the port will still build with GnuTLS even with other ssl
libraries installed
