Faced with the fact that you are having no problems with Xorg and DHCP, I
decided to make a fresh install of FreeBSD 10.3 "by the book" following the
instructions in the handbook.  On the fresh install, I have no problems with
Xorg or DHCP.

I've been building FreeBSD since sometime before v6.  I winged it on the
problematic install, so I must have made mistake.

As a result of this new install, the only problem still existing from my
original problem report is the annoyance of not having a synthetic mouse, which
you already planned to address.
