Unfortunately, this is still broken.

This code:

# 3b. if there is no usable version installed, check defaults

The code, as written, is if you don't have a version of bdb installed in
/usr/local already before you start, it completely ignores what you requested
and depends on bdb-5 instead.

This is not what is happening.
