It may be appropriate to also consider the sscanf issues and alternatives
indicated in:
https://www.securecoding.cert.org/confluence/display/c/INT05-C.+Do+not+use+input+functions+to+convert+character+data+if+they+cannot+handle+all+possible+inputs
sscanf is not good for handling/avoiding problems in the text being converted
well.
Has anyone contacted the upstream author ( capps at iozone.org ) to see what their
criteria are for changes to go upstream? For example: what range of vintages of
C are to be supported? That criteria might eliminate what I reference above for
changes going upstream for all I know.
