 I was having the same problems listed here until I back ported the fuse
 code from HEAD which is available as a patch at
 http://www.freebsd.org/cgi/query-pr.cgi?pr=184042 for
 sysutils/fusefs-kmod which supports 8.x and 9.x systems.  I've been
 running it for the last few months with sshfs and it's been rock solid.
