Actually, it is.
See /usr/ports/Templates/BSD.local.dist
You don't attempt to remove files installed by mtree.

okay, so you already figured that out.

Sure, why not? Especially if all the other ports that use @fontsdir use it
with no-mtree directories. If the directory is not sacred then it's nice if
the port builds cleanly.
