Did the following:
portsnap
cd /usr/ports/textproc/p5-XML-Compile
make clean package


(Version 1.39.  Makefile has:
# $FreeBSD: textproc/p5-XML-Compile/Makefile 330095 2013-10-11 18:34:27Z sunpoet $

If you do 'make clean package' the package is created in the 'work' subdirectory but is not put into the textproc/p5-XML-Compile directory,  unlike similar ports.
