System in question freezes when leaving an X session.  Screen looses signal, system is non-responsive to user input and external network input.

Chipset:
AMD 780G (embedded Radeon 3200HD)

Xorg drivers:
ati, radeon (freeze upon exit)
radeonhd    (no screens found)
vesa, vga   (works great; no issues upon exit)

Compilers (no difference in results between versions):
gcc version 4.2.1 20070719
gcc version 4.3.2 20080821


Make.conf (orig):
CFLAGS= -O2 -ffast-math -pipe -march=k8-sse3 (gcc 4.3.2)


Make.conf (alt):
CFLAGS= -O -pipe -march=k8 (gcc 4.2.1)


Notes:
Originally compiled ports/x11/xorg with gcc43 along with the more aggressive cflags.  Rebuilt ports/x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati with gcc42 and switched to the more conservative cflags.  No effect.

Disabled onboard video, installed an Nv GF8600GT PCIe video card, switched to the xf86-video-nv driver (already built with gcc43 and -O2 et-all).  X started and stopped without issue.
