 I have the same problem.
 
 
 The fix is to put the following into /usr/local/etc/pkgtools.conf:
 
    ENV['PORTS_DBDRIVER'] = 'bdb1_hash'
 
 Then do:
 
    portsdb -fu
    pkgdb -fu
