# This is a shell archive. Save it in a file, remove anything before
# this line, and then unpack it by entering "sh file". Note, it may
# create directories; files and directories will be owned by you and
# have default permissions.

# This archive contains:

# databases/adodb-ext/Makefile
# databases/adodb-ext/distinfo
# databases/adodb-ext/pkg-descr
# databases/adodb-ext/pkg-plist
# databases/adodb-ext/pkg-message

XThis extension requires the ADOdb classes to be used for data
Xaccess. When ADOdb detects the constant ADODB_EXTENSION is set,
Xit will use the extension to perform the following speedups:
X
X1. Emulation of recordcount is substantially faster. Up to 75%
X faster for oracle oci8 for example. This does not help
X mysql or postgresql as both databases support native record-
X count.
X
X Recordcount emulation occurs for every SELECT statement when
X $ADODB_COUNTRECS = true, so Oracle, Sybase, Informix,
X MSSQL, Access, and many ODBC/ADO database drivers will get
X a big boost in speed.
X
X2. The $rs->Move($offset) function is faster for databases that
X do not provide a native seek function on the recordset.
X
X3. $rs->GetArray() will use the highly optimized adodb_getall()
X function.

XConfiguration:
X
XFirst you need to add extensions path to adodb.so to php.ini, default is:
Xextension_dir = /usr/local/lib/php/20020429
X
XUsage:
X
XYou can either dynamicly load with:
Xdl('adodb.so');
X
Xor add it to your php.ini with:
Xextension=adodb.so
END-of-databases/adodb-ext/pkg-message
exit
