configure: error: cannot compute suffix of object files: cannot compile

Hi,

Since upgrading my 10stable jail to


JAILNAME   VERSION              ARCH  METHOD TIMESTAMP           PATH

/usr/local/poudriere/jails/10stable


Hundreds of ports fail with

configure: error: cannot compute suffix of object files: cannot compile

a sample log file for devel/pkgconf can be found here

I tried running poudriere interactive "-i" and could not find any logs 
in wrkdirs

The build server is running

FreeBSD bsd11 11.0-ALPHA1 FreeBSD 11.0-ALPHA1 #24 r301229: Thu Jun  2 
19:32:41 EDT 2016     mikej at bsd11:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/GENERIC  amd64

What else can I provide or test?
