I made some tests with quad core CPU:

netstat shows:
            input (em0) output
packets errs bytes packets errs bytes colls
    533738 0 32024280 181592 0 10506120 0
    526035 0 31562100 181580 0 10508266 0
    524260 0 31455600 181683 0 10509310 0
    524264 0 31455840 182385 0 10550374 0

pmcstat results - http://89.186.204.158/hwpmc-p4-quadcore.txt
not sure if they are correct because the system livelocked during
pmcstat run, so I did cold reboot.
if_em is compiled as module here, so grpof from if_em is at the end of
the file.
Quite surprising quad core is slower in this benchmark, and I'm still
trying to find what is different if we do not count the cpus :)
